I lived in Millfields Terrace. The prefabs next to the dog track. Remember race nights very well, and the fireworks on scurry cup night I thin it was called. Moved away in 64.AckneyAwks wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 11:10 am I was born in Hackney and moved to the area of Clapton E.5 when i was four years of age until moving to Essex in my forties.
I live directly opposite the stadium in a council estate this was in the sixties and the stadium was the focal point of the area. At that time it was only used for greyhound racing. The stadium was a large arena with the main stand and terraces part seated/part covered and the boundary walls were very high. It also had a multy story car park in one corner and right beside it was Millfields park.
On race night there was always a buzz in the area and crowds of around 3,000 would attend. On a side note me and my mates would look/keep a eye on punters cars and they would normally pay us after the meeting around one shilling, two bob or if they won maybe we would be rich with £1. Two of our regulars were Sir Alf Ramseys brother and former Leyton Orient striker Harry Gregory after a game at Brisbane road on a Saturday.
Great days and great memories, fantastic stadium.

I remember prefabs in Millfields road next to dog track and facing houses on the other side of road.
Scurry cup was like you say the big night with fireworks.
