What is the status of Ross' contract?
From what I can gather from this https://www.leytonorient.com/2020/01/07 ... ead-coach/ he's on a rolling 12 month but it's unclear whether that's rolling from Jan or if it's now finished and we need to make a call on whether to roll it forward?
I mean, he's going to be our 'head coach' whenever the season starts, right? Or is anyone expecting any changes?

He is going to be our head coach when the season starts. The rolling contract (period undefined) is to minimise any payoff as a result of his inevitable future firing.

I desperately want Ross to do well but I think things are going to be very tough for him. If we can't bring in decent signings he's going to struggle badly.

Re: What is the status of Ross' contract?
My reading of the announcement was that he was on a rolling 12 Month contract from the date the announcement was made 6 months ago, therefore the 12 month date for rolling over will be in 6 months time.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Fri Jul 10, 2020 11:39 am From what I can gather from this https://www.leytonorient.com/2020/01/07 ... ead-coach/ he's on a rolling 12 month but it's unclear whether that's rolling from Jan or if it's now finished and we need to make a call on whether to roll it forward?

Re: What is the status of Ross' contract?
I dont think the club would ever sack Ross. If they wanted to bring in a new manager, they would move him to a different position, like u19 coach( if such a position doesn't exist, they'd create it).
If they really did sack him and removed him from the club, then Martin Ling would resign......Ross is his protege , almost like a family member. The club would never do that, so Ross would stay in some capacity.
Orient really is an old boys network now...its a very unhealthy situation
We could be doing so much better with a good manager and without a DOF

The club said that there would be no fall back position when he accepted the job and quite rightly so.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Fri Jul 10, 2020 1:22 pm I dont think the club would ever sack Ross. If they did sack him then hopefully Ling would also resign, we can only live in hope that is so.

I just think it means they can fire him whenever they want, and he will get a year's salary as a payoff. At no point does his contract simply expire.

Re: What is the status of Ross' contract?
That is correct I think. Simply gives Ross the security of 12 months money should he be sacked.

How nice to be able to get a full years money if you are not a success at your job !
That is the sort of contract that most workers in normal jobs would love to have as security.

Re: What is the status of Ross' contract?
To be honest, I've got nothing personally against Ross Embleton (other than he looks a bit of a d!ck whenever he wears a cap).
However, we've got to be honest with ourselves here. He will never be a guy who will progress us beyond middle table mediocrity. Nothing about him convinces me that he is the guy to take Leyton Orient Football Club forward.
Since the sad, untimely demise of Justin, we seem to have been in a permanent state of limbo. Understandable perhaps in 2019/2020 - as things were still so raw.
Moving forward, our superb ownership, clearly has a major weakness. They haven't now gone in and basically restructured our club from the top down. Our management structure has NOT delivered; and taking into consideration our sales and (thus far) non-existent squad acquisitions, it should be a major cause for concern. Alarm bells should be ringing. Sadly, they aren't.
The only way for our Club to move on, is for our leadership to move on. Sadly, I can only see a back-slapping environment from our Board.
They seriously need to grow a pair and make significant changes.

Our director of football is a man of his times, lower level EFL of 20 years ago, time has moved on since then, football included.NuneatonO's wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 1:06 am To be honest, I've got nothing personally against Ross Embleton (other than he looks a bit of a d!ck whenever he wears a cap).

I think the word you are looking for is he is useless. I literally have no idea why he is manager. None. Nada.NuneatonO's wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 1:06 am To be honest, I've got nothing personally against Ross Embleton (other than he looks a bit of a d!ck whenever he wears a cap).

Re: What is the status of Ross' contract?
There's a very serious point here, that I imagine Teague is alive to: the current management team worked well in an emergency situation i.e. rescuing the club from near-oblivion, and extracting it from the bowels of non-league. It can also DAJ in keeping us ticking along in the fourth tier. But if we want to go to the next level (which means at least the third tier, and eventually further) then it's pretty clear that Ling, Embleton & chums don't have it within them. It's just a question of time - how long before Teague et al lose patience with the lack of progress, or (unlikely) do they settle for a nice, cosy, and rather expensive mediocrity, like so many of our fans seem to enjoy.NuneatonO's wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 1:06 am To be honest, I've got nothing personally against Ross Embleton (other than he looks a bit of a d!ck whenever he wears a cap).

Re: What is the status of Ross' contract?
I actually think that NuneatonO makes some good points however, last season was a free pass for everyone as I've never seen nor experienced such a situation in my life.
Picking up on Oyinbo point there were times when Kent came across as "not Impressed" with what was happening, but always seemed to pull himself back due to the sensitivity of what the club had been through which was unprecedented. I don't think he will allow another shitfest this coming season and hence why Ross has has a short contract albeit a good one in terms of payoff, and the rationale of no fullback position.
If Ross fails then Ling fails too and he must also walk st that point, Davis failure, Fletch failure and Ross failure with only Justin a success, but that's more to Justin running the show rather than Ling.

Re: What is the status of Ross' contract?
Whoever was the manager, right now he would have to work with the contracted players we have. It’s highly doubtful that the ones who haven’t come up to scratch could be moved on. The season after next is when we can see a big player refresh. By then the Owners may have a better idea of the structure and managerial quality they want.NuneatonO's wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 1:06 am To be honest, I've got nothing personally against Ross Embleton (other than he looks a bit of a d!ck whenever he wears a cap).

Re: What is the status of Ross' contract?
The owners made it clear from the outset that this is the structure that they want.
If Orient struggle this season I’m sure they will look for a replacement for Ross - until that time why the continued moanfest?
I also find it hard to understand this “jobs for the boys” mantra - all clubs operate in this manner - just look at Man Utd for example.

I think you’ll find we struggled this season a lot. What gives you the confidence next season will be any different, especially without Marvin, Sotiriou and Cisse.Orient Punxx wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 8:14 am The owners made it clear from the outset that this is the structure that they want.

Re: What is the status of Ross' contract?
Both he and Ling must go, club will go nowhere with those two dragging us backwards. Need an ex Orient formidable player to come in as Manager. Ling couldn’t direct anything and I personally think he has lost the plot. I reluctantly renewed my tickets but felt I was throwing money down the drain parting with my hard earned cash as I deep down think there will not be much football, I won’t be in my long held seats, it will be more stressful watching a match in face masks, we will lose more players and get naff all in return for our loyalty to the club. I just cannot feel other than the season will be a disaster all round and I’m paying for nothing. In some ways I wish I had just did ‘pay as you go’.
Ling is old hat, past it and he should move on and take his Manager with him. They are hardly the dream team.
