Well we still have Turley, Happe (if we dont sell him), Coulson and maybe Ogie in that position. Its not the end of the world. We will probably bring in another centre half as back up as well.Scuba Diver wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 11:16 amAgree completely. A real shame to lose him. I really liked him as a player. He came from nothing and in the promotion season was outstanding in almost every game. Was slow out of the gates in League Two but grew into it. I think League One might be a little bit of a struggle for him if i'm completely honest but i hope he smashes it.
I think it's a real shame that we couldn't sign him. I just hope it wasn't purely money after the amount we must have spent on someone like Coulson extending his contract.

It's really not the end of the world. He wasn't even a great League Two player and he is about to turn 25. We can find someone at least as good or get another young player with potential in. Would have been cool if he stayed but not worth any hysterics. Hope he does really well at Blackpool though, seems a good lad.

We definitely need another one, especially if playing 3 at a time, and especially with Turley's injury record and Ogie not being fancied much.

He's done us a good turn and owes us nothing. He's not a young man anymore and if he's going to make some money out of the game he needs to fast track his way up. this is a chance to do that. Would have been nice to get a few quid for him, but that's business.

Perhaps that's a better way of looking at it. Who would you have rather kept. I know for a fact someone offered £200k for him and we rejected it. Probably because we’d already sold Bonne and Koroma and a) didn’t need the money at the time and b) didn’t want to lose 3 key players in one summer and risk going straight back downRedO wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 11:14 amIf anyone had literally offered £200k for him, do you honestly think he would still be here? If you ask me, we should have accepted it as it's crazy money for someone like him. But this was around the same time we'd just sold Bonne and Koroma, and there would have been an extra mega meltdown had we let all three of them go.

He’s gone, so be it, it's valid to ask if we could have handled his contract situation better, but we ultimately can’t stop out-of-contract players leaving, so move on.

I think he'll struggle at L1.
But thanks for your efforts Marv and that goal at Wrexham (and the others) and all the best.

Re: Marvin Signs for Blackpool
Marvin going has been on the cards for a long time. IMO, Ruel leaving will be a far bigger blow, exciting young forward and it would have been a good option to have him available for selection in the coming season.

TBH, Ruel leaving looks well on the cards now.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 11:02 am Good Luck to him. He and his agent have clearly had this on the back burner for several months, genuinely hope he does well for them. No-one on this board or anywhere else should hold it against him because it's the way football is these days, we plucked him out of non league and gave his talents a platform now he has the chance on a higher stage. shame there is no fee but hopefully we will pick another young talent to replace him.
I always feel that defenders/goalkeepers are more easily replaced than midfielders/forwards I will be more upset if/when Ruel leaves.

Maybe we can sign his twin brother from Newport - save printing costs on the shirt and training kit? Shame to see him leave but I cannot blame him for wanting to better himself at the age of 25. I am really not worried about anyone leaving as there will be so many decent players without a club - will be some real gems to sign if we do our research.

Re: Marvin Signs
We do indeed. I suppose I am a little concerned in this area, as Turley seems injury-prone, and Coulson struggled badly after the step-up, which leaves Happe and an (untried really in that position at L2 level) Ogie.DuvB wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 11:20 amWell we still have Turley, Happe (if we dont sell him), Coulson and maybe Ogie in that position. Hoping that now Marvin has gone, that will mean we retain Happe. Of the 2, I would say he is the better player anyway.

Re: Marvin Signs for Blackpool
Was great in our promotion season; felt he struggled in League Two for most of it; and League One might be a step too far for his abilities.
Pleased for the lad though as he was part of that successful side - and everyone deserves to take the best opportunities they can. Just got to hope that Turley stays fit this season; although my sources say he's looking for an alternative career; so was expecting him to leave this summer.

Re: Marvin Signs for Blackpool
I think he will really struggle at League One level but I wish him good luck for the future and hope he does well for them. TBH, we have lost far better players than Marvin in the past and we've kept going. Because of what's happened this season I think there will be a glut of decent players released this Summer so I think we should be able to find an adequate replacement.

Wish the lad well and no one can deny Marvin a step up the ladder from us to a bigger club to try his luck. I hope it goes well for the lad and he smashes it!!!
He will always be remembered and appreciated as a major part of the team that got us out of non-league football so very quickly and I will be eternally greatful to him for that.
Thanks for the memories Marvin

Re: Marvin Signs for Blackpool
Not surprised by this tbh, mentally he seemed to be halfway out the door after last summer's transfer speculation and never seemed settled after that.
He's been a good value signing for us, a vital part of the promotion squad and for what we paid 2.5 years of a decent player is money well spent. Wish him well for Blackpool, needs to improve that first touch though as it was getting exploited even at L2 level. Young enough to improve though with good coaching as he has all the right physical attributes to be successful.
The key now is how we replace him. I hope Ogie isn't the "signing" given how Embleton barely gave him a minute of game time season just gone.
For me the way we scouted Ekpiteta is the model for the future, snaffle promising young pros cheap and develop them. Cut price Peterborough if you will.

I understand your point but I would rather we signed a ready made replacement from the players who are going to be made available .gshaw wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 1:23 pm Not surprised by this tbh, mentally he seemed to be halfway out the door after last summer's transfer speculation and never seemed settled after that.
