Sotiriou

Post by DuvB »

Sotiriou is now out of contract and I am surprised that it has not been announced by the club that he is now a free agent. Are they still hopeful that he will sign once he has had more of a chance to talk to other clubs?

Announcing the released list is sort of advertising to other clubs the names of players available, I realise their names will appear elsewhere. And to fans those players no longer with the club.

Sortiriou is still, hopefully, in talks so though out of contract is not released by the club.

Who can blame a young man in wanting to better himself as he sees it. Nothing Orient could do other than offer him the best deal they could afford. If that turned out to be insufficient then good luck to him. Wish him well.

Don't see how its the clubs fault. If a player wants to try an better themselves then they can do by running down a contract. He's a bright prospect but nothing more atm. He's more likely to be the next Scott Kashket as opposed to the next Scott McGleish.

Bit unfair on Kashket and Sotiriou. Kashket's career stalled through two consecutive serious injuries. Before they hit he was doing very well for Wycombe. I don't see any reason why Sotiriou can't be a stand-out League One striker.

Then there is Kashket's ban for betting !

Following this thread I’ve tried to find out. Nothing showing yet. Maybe those in the know on here can elaborate.

Arguably Ruel is not even a League 2 standout striker, but what cannot be argued is that he has potential. I reckon that can be said of a handful of youths in league 2 right now.

Bigger clubs can hoover up young kids with potential for peanuts. If they work out they have a winner that cost very little. If they don’t then these kids just join a long list of wannabes plying their trade in the lower leagues somewhere.

Ruthless business with high rewards for those that make it, mediocrity for those that don’t.

It’s a sad fact that any decent youngsters that we and other lower league clubs produce will be looking at clubs higher up the food chain And as Dohnut says, those who don’t make it will be cast aside and mediocrity will surely follow.
I’m not sure that Ruel is ready for L1 IF that’s where he’s headed, just my opinion, but I think he needs a full season at our level
Before moving on.
Of course we’re all discussing this as though he has left but let’s hope he hasn’t.
Hopefully we’ve already got a replacement lined up from lower down the ‘food chain’ , at least that’s what our scouts should be doing.

Club won't ever say, everything is "undisclosed" but the EPPP guidelines give you an idea what the compo fee is

EPPP guidelines only apply to academy players and in Sotirious case would have nothing to do with it. As long as we have made the offer of a further contract and because hr is already on a pro contract if two clubs cannot agree a fee it goes to the PFCC - Professional Fotball Compensation Committee made up of a member of the PFA, EFL, Premier League, and LMA under an independent chairman. This was the case for George Porter.

Burnley were ordered to pay £90k upfront £17.5 k after 15,30,45 and 60 games, £100k if Burnley were promoted within 3 seasons and Porter play half the games and (I think) 16.5% of any transfer profit. Sotiriou had obviously played fewer games but represented Cyprus at under 18 level. Would expect a reasonable return if it goes to arbitration.

Found the article:-

GEORGE PORTER

Porter had made 34 league appearances for Leyton Orient between the age of 18 and 20. He rejected a new two year contract offer, and instead signed a three year contract with the Championship club Burnley.
The PFCC decided that Burnley should pay Leyton Orient an initial compensation fee of £90,000.
Additionally, Burnley were to pay Leyton Orient a further £17,500 after the player has made 15, 30, 45 and 60 appearances (i.e. a total further potential payment of £70,000).
Burnley would also pay Leyton Orient a further sum of £100,000 if Burnley were promoted to the Premier League in the next three seasons and assuming the player remains at the club and had played at least 23 matches in the promotion season.
Leyton Orient should receive 16.5% of any profit made by Burnley in selling the player to another club at any point in the future.
