Ennio Morricone has died, aged 91.

One of the finest composers of film music to have ever lived. Too many great scores to name, I remember seeing "Once Upon A Time In America" and being blown away by the soundtrack.

His 'sound' was truly remarkable. You can almost always identity a Morricone string as soon as you hear it and, in some cases, his soundtracks were as big a star as some of the actors appearing in the films. I'll be playing a few soundtracks today in memory of one of the greatest film score composers of all time.

Very sad news. What a body of work he leaves behind. He hated being known mainly for the spaghetti westerns as they only comprised a small percentage of his compositions. Agree with you Faldo - the music in Once Upon a Time in America leaves a lasting impression with its emotionally charged instrumentation and the way it evokes a wistful nostalgia for the past.

Genius is an over-used word, but not when describing Ennio Morricone.

Serious question, does the music he wrote etc. Now belong to his family or does it revert to the record company or some other such body?

Country musician Charlie Daniels dies : https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-53315098

Cue someone doing a sick clickbait "Charlie Daniels dies" thread at some point in the near future with the intention of hooking people based on the former Orient player's name.

I work for a music rights company and it varies a bit for various rights (performing or sound recording) but for anything played on Radio or TV for the next 70 years goes to whoever he's bequeathed it to in his estate.
