Club on twitter

Post by kokomO »

Genuine question and apologies if already done elsewhere, haven’t got time to go through the board.

Anyone else feel uncomfortable with the way the club is publicly ‘thanking’ by retweeting on Twitter the people who have decided to donate there ST refund back to the club. It’s feels like a reverse form of shamning the people who wanted there money return.

Also, refund being option four, last one after you’re read through all the others to see what a true supporter you could’ve been......

Just an observation that was all.

If I'm one of the 25% who aren't a real fan (didn't choose option 1) then I couldn't care less.

Would the choice of options mean what strength the team would be next season?

If you want your money back that's fine. Clearly the club need the cash too, but if someone tweets the club to say they've chosen Option 1, and the club gives them a thumbs-up, it's a bit of a stretch IMO to see that as shaming those who chose something else.

I chose Option 1 and didn't bother telling them - should I be cross that I haven't had a pointless pat on the back?

Just to point out I didn’t have a season ticket, I haven’t for the last few years as live to far away and found I was missing to many games to make it financially viable. I was just thinking how torn I would be now if I was in that position with my current financial picture being the way it is.

I think they should’ve taken the money (which is fair enough as the club needs it) and not made anything of it. I’d feel terrible if I had to take the money back because I was skint and the people that could give the money to the club being painted something differently.

I don't believe there's any ulterior motive by the Club - not with the current ownership anyway (not so sure that I could readily say the same about the previous two Chairmen).

Their statement is simply a way of thanking fans.

I'm pretty sure that Kent and Nigel are both pretty grounded individuals; and recognise that given peoples' current financial predicament, that some folk simply can't afford not to seek recompense.

Considering option 1 or 2. option 2 the club still get the money anyways and its possibly something I wouldn't have spent usually.

Exactly this. It's to show a sign of gratitude.

Why not just reply to the people in question then rather than make it public??

FWIW I don't think thanking people in public is in any way shaming others who've chosen a different option.

To be honest, I think it's the least the club could do.

Is putting a name of a donor on a brick outside the west stand shaming all those people who didn't sponsor a brick ?

I feel the same. The way they've worded it is like you're a lesser fan/sh*t person if you take an option other than 1. I'll be using the money to pay towards my season ticket next season and I've also bought a shirt to help (something I never do because I'm not under the age of 16).

I've sat through sh*t football. Sam Ling starting every week. Sam Ling getting a new contract. Embleton in then out after a dismal start (and him not feeling up to the job). Carl Fletcher in then out after Martin Ling's f*** up. Embleton getting the top job again after failing because Martin Ling pressured him into it. The list goes on. They're lucky I'm even renewing.

No idea. But that doesn't take anything away from what they're doing.

I'm going to tweet the club and say I asked for my money back, let's see if they give that a thumbs up.

Any preference on who at the club gives you the thumb up?
