I think they're both varieties of the easy peeler fruit

The greatest foodstuff ever produced by man was Peach flavoured Angel Delight. Or at least that's what I thought when I was 13. It glowed in the dark and there were so many E numbers that ADHD kids were always injuring
themselves falling off the ceiling after cosuming a bowlful. I think the W.H.O or Save the Children got it banned in the end. Bastards. I still crave it to this day.

Does anybody buy tinned fruit anymore? Our afters for tea were often that (Libby's or Del Monte) with Birds Custard:pears, peaches, plums, pineapple or fruit cocktail. But can't remember the last time I had any of them...Nor tinned grapefruit segments for a special breakfast treat.

That's a big yes from me.

I buy tinned pear halves and tinned peach slices (both in juice, not syrup). We call them "old peoples" fruit, 'cos they're the sort of product one might imagine on the breakfast offering in an old people's home (not too difficult to chew). Indeed, back in my hotel days in the early 80s the breakfast buffet at many a good 4 star hotel contained tinned fruit.

Four our breakfast, we have oats soaked overnight in a little yogurt and water with cinnamon, and in the morning we chop tinned pears or peaches over them (I add raisins).

Del Monte are good, but I usually buy Morrison's own brand (probably the same product, tbh). They last forever and are probably better environmentally than flying the product in fresh from wherever in the world it's grown.

Oh indeed the Butterscotch one was also divine. Of course you can still get a Butterscotch version these days but it is a pale imitation of the original. I always ate the Peach one on its own but strangely I liked pears with butterscotch one too

Had that for lunch today. 7 pies, 6 mash, 2 liquor and 1 gravy. Picked it up as takeaway only, got home and no mash!! Had to phone them and go and get the mash they forgot to include.

Proper lovely it was when we finally got to eat it.

Whats your favourite roast dinner?

I have a chicken to cook today, not my favourite but always good value and hard to go wrong. Any suggestions for how I should cook it?

Rib of Beef - on the bone - Medium Rare. Complete with Yorks, Roast tatties and carrots, gravy, cabbage or greens. Must have horseradish on the side.

Also like to to the same meal, but with rib of buffalo. Really strong in flavour - "like beef used to be"

I do like a roast chicken - I just do it plain (or maybe with a couple of cloves of garlic in the pan). Such a homely dinner. Like a parsley, lemon and thyme stuffing with it too. I have the legs, Mrs Spike has the breast.

I always find that brand loyalty always ends in disappointment as your favorite flavour disappears due 'insufficient sales' or some other guff. Crunchynut peanuts gone, any flavour of icecream you find is good, gone when you look for more etc. I still buy tinned pineapple chunks, put them in a slow cooker juice and all, with rice and chicken.
