Playing budget
How can a playing budget for the upcoming season be forecasted and finalised?
There are so many issues to be resolved that directly link to revenue streams.
- when will the season start?
- what will our season ticket numbers be?
- when will ST /non-ST spectators be allowed in to spend their cash?
- will a salary cap be instituted for the coming season for L2?
The only financial figure that is known right now is the amount that will be spent on the contracted players. Other that, I fail to see how Management can agree to signing up new players, unless they are free loanees.
We are not alone in this quandary of course.

Re: Playing budget
Be surprised if we signed anyone other than Cisse, having so many players signed up might work against us there are going to be a lot of good players desperate for deals, we are going to have a lot of players on good salaries sitting in the stands every week. I would think every L1/2 club will need some sort of financial assistance,

Re: Playing budget
They stump up millions every year to keep the club going as do many owners doesn’t mean they have unlimited funds and doesn’t follow that we should expect them to put more and more in.
The club has made great strides commercially in the past two seasons but the effects of the pandemic will cost the club about £1.5 million according to Danny Macklin,
All clubs will need financial help.

I haven't.Disoriented wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 12:47 pm We are all thankful to T&T.
Don’t conflate the two points though.
I have clearly stated that we expect to be £1.5 million worse off on top of the usual commitment from T&T.
There is a Q&A session on twitter at 6pm tonight after the EFL meeting today with the owners, look forward to hearing your questions.

While it may be speaking the truth that our owners should pay for it, this is a time when a more pragmatic solution will help the wider football community.Disoriented wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 11:39 amHe is speaking the truth though.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 11:08 am Be surprised if we signed anyone other than Cisse, having so many players signed up might work against us there are going to be a lot of good players desperate for deals, we are going to have a lot of players on good salaries sitting in the stands every week. If we're saying there would be no financial assistance to Orient and that their owners were responsible for covering the deficit then that would also mean that the same applied to other L2 teams. While we have rich owners some of the other teams' owners would not be in a position to be able to continue to financial support and we could therefore lose several teams.

Re: Playing budget
Inevitable SF unless someone can come up with a feasible funding package, wether it's government or premier league or whoever it's going to need something, some clubs in L1 will be having a much larger shortfall than the Os.Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 1:09 pmWhile it may be speaking the truth that our owners should pay for it, this is a time when a more pragmatic solution will help the wider football community.Disoriented wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 11:39 amHe is speaking the truth though.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 11:08 am Be surprised if we signed anyone other than Cisse, having so many players signed up might work against us there are going to be a lot of good players desperate for deals, we are going to have a lot of players on good salaries sitting in the stands every week. Every business in the UK will have lost money, we're no exception.
Does that mean the government has to bail out every single one of them?

Re: Playing budget
No, it doesn't. But some sort of financial assistance for EFL/NL teams could come from higher up the football pyramid. Not sure that would happen to the extent it is needed though.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 2:11 pm Every business in the UK will have lost money, we're no exception.

Re: Playing budget
HMRC take millions from EFL clubs every season in VAT and taxes. I think Goverment, Premier League and even the PFA who have major cash reserves could chip in to save clubs and players jobs but also clubs need to help themselves by introducing wage caps and squad limits.

Re: Playing budget
The government should not bail out football one penny, the game has been awash with money for years and through sheer greed and selfishness the proverbial sh.t has it the fan. For the greater good of the game the Premier league could have helped financially more further down the pyramid of the leagues. That said the football league clubs are no innocent party through overpaying players against the financial stability of the club.
On a personal note i am back in work in July facing redundancy 200 staff cut (25%) and those kept on facing a 15% pay cut. I dont begrudge footballers earning good money but when i would have to work over 20 years to equal a months pay for them, then sympathy go's out of the window. You will probably find that quite a few players in the lower divisions are earning decent money anything between £5-10.000 a month. Give me a ten year career on that money, i'd be happy.
As i say, the government contribute.......NOT A PENNY!! the money is in football.

Re: Playing budget
Sorry to hear about your personal circumstances and hope things work out OK for you. The average salary in L2 is probably a lot less than people think and there needs to be a salary cap for all divisions. EFL L1/2 clubs don't see very much of the money washing about in the game, players and agents higher up the pyramid are greedy. Very little works it's way down.AckneyAwks wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 3:11 pm The government should not bail out football one penny, the game has been awash with money for years and through sheer greed and selfishness the proverbial sh.t has it the fan. Re: Playing budget
TBF to Ackney there are a fair few players at the O's in the £5-10k per month bracket. The problem is that many of them will spend up to what they earn, as its only natural to do so.

Re: Playing budget
Thanks TotJES for your comments and i agree with both you and Little Mate. What i would say is that the Premier league clubs get unbelievable ammounts of TV money and if they cared at all for the game in this country they could have better helped to financially protect the pyramid system in this country. After all they help themselves to young talent at lower league clubs.
As i said previously the EFL clubs are no innocent party in this mess and they better learn something or it's goodbye football clubs.
During the virus i kept thinking to myself why any professional footballer earning lets say a minimum of £2.000 per week would not agree to a 10% deduction from thier salary to help safeguard fellow professional players lower down the leagues. That could mean a Premier league player on £200.000 per week paying around £20.000. I know thiers tax involved but i'm sure they will survive during this three month period. The PFA havent done themselves any favours either. Obviously everything would have to be thorough and with financial constraints, so that EFL club chairman dont abuse the financial aid.
I know people will say well what about what Harry Kane did for us through sponsorship and that was a unbelievabally fantastic gesture but i believe a collective effort should have come from the PFA and it's members as a whole.
Maybe i'm living in dream world but if i was in thier position i would have helped in a heartbeat, as a collective body.
