The Dangers Of Social Media

Post by Clive Evans »

Today quite a few of my friends or relatives ( and they are true friends- I only have 50 Facebook Friends ), have shared images purporting to show people who have ejected missiles at Police horses or defaced monuments of National importance ( I'm not talking about the Bristol jerk ). These friends are just normal people who think they are well off and probably voted for Boris.
What worries me, is that I bet they haven't checked to see whether or not the photos are genuine. It is so easy these days to doctor stuff. Many of them are the same people that naively share, scurrilous stories that people put on Facebook for a laugh or to scare people. People like THOR. Please think carefully about what you put on social media. If you are 100% right, maybe the gits get all that coming to them. But if you are wrong, you can do a lot of harm to innocent people. Do you really want to be Judge and Jury? Facebook was awash with stuff this morning. Be careful out there!

I try to avoid social media, Facebook especially. A couple of people I know are often quoting outlandish claims made on Facebook. Being a pedantic type of person, I check and nearly all of the time it turns out to be fake news. Too many people nowadays ( especially the younger generation ) are attention seekers who want to get on the wannabe internet and media star bandwagon, no doubt inspired to the easy root to fame and lots of money by those who have become so called ''Stars'' by being on places like Big Brother, googlebox, YouTube channels, tacky tv shows like the Kardashian's, Katie Price, the list is endless ! I admire far more people who have knuckled down, studied hard and done normal jobs, especially Those who are Teachers, Engineers, Scientists Nurses, Doctors,Dentists etc.

Sounds like you need to block your friends on Fakebook and ditch them in real life.

Social media enables people to be as lazy as they want to be. It's not difficult to fact check something, but few bother. I saw one today with about 20 people saying how disgraceful it was that a statue was grafittied. Then someone from the US informed than it was of a confederate who fought to stop the abolition of slavery. The fact they still have statutes like that in the US highlights the need for the black lives matter movement

The more dangerous thing is what state sponsored hackers and other groups, including the Tory party, are trying to do with social media. The flood of tiny lies and inuendo often goes unnoticed but collectively it builds a belief in peoples minds because 'I have seen this in several places so it must be true'. People are being sucked in and in some cases it could be disasterous for them and their families. Look at the anti-vax campaign, just when the WHO and others are getting on top of fatal diseases and in some cases removing them from the planet this lot would be happy for them to spread world-wide again. When you accuse Doctors and Scientists, funded by Bill Gates, of trying to depopulate countries by planting things in vaccines, yet cannot see that not having vaccines will have the self same effect, how can you expect credibilty. Still people believe the drip-feed on this and other matters no matter how much they are debunked.

Sorry but unlike you, I am a tolerant person. Everyone should be entitled to their. view. Likewise if you think they are wrong you should point it out. I was brought up in the Welsh Methodist tradition. All men are God's children and we should all look out for each other. The Sunday Times ( Tory Rag ), did an absolutely brilliant article about the Welsh miners after the strike. Nobody supported the Welsh when they had initial pit closures. Scargill turned his back on them. Yet they were the last to break the strike.
