There is a very interesting programme available on the BBC IPlayer which I saw last night.
Reggie made the programme in May 2016 about life and gun crime in the poorer parts of Chicago and the effects gun crime have on the largely black population in these areas.
The level of Gun crime is shocking with the vast majority being ‘Black on black’ killings. There are also accusations of police brutality with evidence from a dash cam recorder from a ladies car.
Reggie also spends some time with a group of older black men who protest in the streets protesting about the violence, chanting “put your guns down” etc
One of these guys brings his 6 year old son on the protest march, god knows why, but I thought, what chance has this young lad making it to middle age with so much killing around him.
Fast forward 4 years and nothing has changed, well......... maybe it’s worse now.........just last weekend there were 85 shootings with 24 people killed in Chicago alone.
It’s hard to see much changing in America while there are just so many guns on the street and there being so much tension between the police and general public. No doubt Police brutality exists but on the other hand the police must think there’s a fair chance they will be shot at on routine calls and so have their guns ready.
George Floyd is just the latest in a long line of shocking cases and it’s hard to see things improving any time soon, very sad really.

Re: Reggie Yates programme on Chicago
Yes agreed, Chicago is the 3rd biggest city in the US I think, so I would imagine the problem to be worse in New York and Los Angeles. With guns so readily available it’s never gonna stop.......
..It’s bad enough here with knife crime, thank god we have stricter gun laws.
