Re: Dominic Cummings
Why would his parents consent to his visit if he had the symptoms? He/They must have realised the visit would be made public. How can voters take the po-faced daily lectures and coronavirus updates seriously. Something rotten in the state of government. No doubt he will try to weasel his way out of it....

Re: Dominic Cummings
No doubt he'll try and explain it away by the fact that he And the missus both had CV.
So, if they both became gravely ill and were admitted to hospital, who would look after their young child.(?)
Although I'm pretty disgusted with the bloke, I don't think he should lose his job. Or, should all the other people that have breached lockdown (and there may be a couple on this board), lose their jobs too?

Would it not have a better idea, given his high-profile, to ask a parent/relative/friend to visit him if he/she/they were hospitalised?

Also, putting a child in a car for a 250 mile drive in close proximity with infected parents is surely not a decision made by a strategic genius.....

So what's the point of issuing guidelines for lockdown if the likes of Cummings (lest we also forget Robert Jenrick - pompous Tory MP) can get away by flaunting them?Scuba Diver wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2020 11:01 am No doubt he'll try and explain it away by the fact that he And the missus both had CV.

IF both had been taken to hospital, then how do you know that their parents or extended family, could not have looked after their child? I'm pretty sure many others have been in a similar situation over the past few months, yet still coped.
Remember there have already been other senior figures involved in tackling the pandemic who have had to resign for breaching lockdown restrictions - Scotland's Former Chief Medical Officer Catherine Calderwood and a leading scientist Professor Neil Ferguson, who was advising the government.
Clearly your level of 'disgust with the bloke' doesn't descend to any form of punishment.

Re: Dominic Cummings
If you're in charge of the policy, you should abide by it. Pretty simple. If Cummings survives this, it'll just underline the complete hypocrisy of the government and the contempt they hold for any idea of accountability.Scuba Diver wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2020 11:01 am No doubt he'll try and explain it away by the fact that he And the missus both had CV.

Further point being made on Twitter: presumably the infected ones had toilet/lunch/fuel breaks in transit. They were supposed to self-isolate as this was/is government policy....

What he did was wrong on many levels, particularly taking into account his position - there's no argument from me there. I also didn't say the argument about looking after the children was My argument you're putting words into my mouth.
My personal view (and it's only my view), that he doesn't deserve to lose his job - clearly, you take a different view, and I respect that view.
We shall see what happens. 'Probably' he will lose his job, and no doubt that will bring you a lot of enjoyment.

Not going to lose his job as he has done nothing wrong. It has been announced by number 10. There are now several thousand people in this country saying " I did a lot less than that and got fined ".

Of course he should lose his job. Just as that randy prof and the scotch bird did. Those in power and setting the rules should be held to the highest of standards.Scuba Diver wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2020 11:01 am No doubt he'll try and explain it away by the fact that he And the missus both had CV.

But he won’t. Give. that Jenrick fella got away with visiting his parents, and Boris went to another home to rest up after his hospital stay, Dom will weasel his way out of this as well.
As far as I’m concerned, this will mean lockdown is over.

Re: Dominic Cummings
Maybe that's the point of this story coming out today - at the start of another Bank Holiday.
How many folk will read this and decide that given the people at the top aren't even following their own rules then no-one should, so they'll go out and pack the beaches and the park. Big jump in infections/deaths etc - and "herd immunity" - and it's not the government's fault at all, it's the stupid great unwashed who appear in all those telephoto pictures.
Lockdown ends by "the will of the people" - so they might as well all go back to work now.

Judging by the pictures of the "stupid great unwashed" yesterday on the beaches and at other hotspots the end of the lockdown happened before this story broke. I bet most of them don't even know who Dominic Cummings is, let alone give a toss what he does or use his transgressions as an excuse for their own behaviour.

Re: Dominic Cummings
It just goes to show that he is like 'the man in the street'.
"Who cares" was his response when questioned. Probably the same as those caught on the beaches and in the parks.
I'm not getting in to a political argument but someone of his status in the pandemic should be held to account.
At the end of the day though he is only an aide and the cynic in me asks what will stop him advising in the future albeit out of the public view?

The Tories would have to find a way of paying him if he continued in his advisor role. If he goes that's it.

Just to add that since the lockdown, I have adhered to advice; as a responsible person. So for you to suggest that if I had been 'followed around someone could point out my social misdoings' (it's one word by the way), is completely incorrect.
You really are a sad little Tory sycophant, aren't you. For you and your ilk, they just can never do any wrong.
