Re: TFL Bailout - Khan Out Now!
Not sure how you can really blame the mayor- the reason they've asked for a bailout is quite clearly out of his control- and the increase in congestion charge is a term dictated by the government as part of the deal.

Londoners paying tax for wet spams ground , for there.corner flags & goal nets ,
£476 million spend.& £ 274 million renovations .
All because Bojo had never heard of leyton orient & wasnt prepared to let Saracens rfc
to share the 25000 seater originally planned .

Although I've been pasted the Olympic Stadium many times I've never been inside . If what my West Ham supporting mates have said is true then I think we should thank Boris for helping us miss a bullet .
Much better sightlines etc .

I'm sure theres more points I'm right about concerning this virus, but I just can't be bothered debating with half wits who just follow what they are told. Crack on mate, I'm loving life and when they dish out the vaccine make sure your at the front of the line, having mercury, aluminium, formaldehyde, animal DNA spliced inside you. Good luck you will need it.

There's only one half wit here who is following what he's been told - you need to look a bit closer to home.

More concerned about £1.6 billion of tax payers money than 35,000 souls who have lost there
lives in the Uk alone . Thory is in need of enlightenment.

Re: TFL Bailout - Khan Out Now!
It never works when the Mayor of London isn't aligned with whichever party holds power in Westminster. The Mayor will always be undermined and scapegoated. The best they can hope for is to be unremarkable - getting the odd policy through whole remaining largely off radar.
Khan has pretty much done that. But his plans to make London more cycle friendly, which I suspect he hoped would be his legacy, have been thwarted by Tory-held London boroughs. Expect the same to happen with his latest plans for increased pedestrianisation.

This.
The bailout will also be a big part of their attack strategy in the mayoral election.

Specifically on the congestion charge, according to the Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/202 ... oronavirus
The Department for Transport said the government did not force Khan or TfL to raise the congestion charge as a condition of approving the bailout.
A spokesman for the Mayor of London said that the government and Khan agreed that the charge should be reviewed, but that it was the mayor’s decision to increase it.

Re: TFL Bailout - Khan Out Now!
Didnt Boris say he was going to scrap the Congestion Charge, while electioneering for his stinylt as Mayor ?
Re: TFL Bailout - Khan Out Now!
So the Guardian reports it was Khan's decision to reimpose the congestion charge. The DFT says the same. So does his own spokesman.Admin wrote: ↑Mon May 18, 2020 9:22 pmNot the case according to Khan himself:faldO wrote: ↑Mon May 18, 2020 12:34 pmSpecifically on the congestion charge, according to the Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/202 ... oronavirus

A spokesman for the Mayor of London said that the government and Khan agreed that the charge should be reviewed, but that it was the mayor’s decision to increase it.
In the statement the Mayor released on 15th May (https://www.london.gov.uk/press-release ... arding-tfl) he lists all the things that the government insisted on and specified (like fare increases, suspending passes) yet says only that the congestion charge will be "reviewed".
Now, though, he's set the record straight on his Facebook page and it was the government all along who insisted on reinstating and raising the congestion charge.
OK.
