When one cough from someone can kill you, I am going nowhere near any type of crowd including shops, pubs, tubes, football etc until we get a vaccine. It is also possible the virus mutates. This could be the big one. The earth having enough of humans, If in 18 months there is no vaccine I will decide if it’s worth living life like a hermit.

Don't you already live off grid in a cave in Wales somewhere?

Don't blame the people who won't go back to work, or send their kids to school, at all.

Trouble is; only 2 ways out of this really:

1) a vaccine
2) immunity

We haven't got the former, so without that, we will All need to be exposed to this at some point, or, hide in our houses forever.

Although cases are dropping, and the risk is diminishing, we're a long way from an "all clear", and, there may never actually be one.

Yes, yes I do, but whisper it gently, we go to shops and pubs and football out here too dunners. Its an easy mistake to make, there have been rumours of cave people living out here for many years.. in the fourteen hundreds!

3) drive numbers down to a level that is so low that the risk is miniscule and cases discovered can easily be traced and stomped on.

I was un-furloughed after three weeks of it and have been commuting by bike from Croydon to Stoke Newington very day as usual. Luckily I’m still pretty fit and can manage 150 miles a week. First day back the roads were almost totally empty but traffic has been slowly increasing since then, esp the last week. I’ve taken a train for part of the way home on a couple of occasions but the trains have been almost empty so it’s been fine. There’s no way I’d risk the tube or a rush hour train for the foreseeable. I came off on some diesel last week and hit the deck pretty hard, but I’ve been able to carry on riding. If I properly crocked myself I’d have to stop working.

I’m fully expecting a second wave to hit sooner rather than later. A vaccine is the only real way out of this, and we are nowhere near that yet. This is going to be a long difficult couple of years at best.

My nephew works at an airport and he's messaged me today to say his furlough has been extended by another 2 months. I guess the airports won't be getting back to any kind d of normality until.the end of summer?

Apparently there were lots of people in Southend high street yesterday. A hospital nurse apparently said “. See you all in 3weeks time”. The government should have waited another 2weeks or so before letting everybody out. The death rate is still to high. I can see another wave of this virus putting us back to where we were 7 weeks ago. Another bad mistake by the so called scientists who in my mind have no common sense.

Back to the op, if you can afford to, you can do what you like. When the government furlough scheme ends in the next month it'll be tough sh*t.

Didn't happen, but that nurse should have know better. Only a very small percentage of people who become infected by the virus ever require hospital care.

Glad you didn't do yourself any serious damage.

As for a vaccine being our only way out; the only realistic option available to us right now is to develop natural immunity through contagion.

Not really an option though, unless you really don't care about people who are already old and probably not that healthy.

And I thought the jury was still out on whether having had it once meant you couldn't catch it again?

I'm in a very fortunate position, I can work from home probably for as long as is required, so I'm going to let others be the canaries in the pit if they choose to do so. I don't envy anyone who is being forced into situations where they don't control physical distancing against their preference.

Lockdown forever then? Which is not an option, unless you really don't care about the young and healthy who will pay for this for years.

I don't think it's about it being an 'option'. It is a very contagious virus, and many of us will catch it, if we haven't done so already. Most nations have adopted policies that merely aim to reduce the rate at which we catch it so that healthcare systems don't fall down. We're just playing for time.

It begs the question as to what countries, who are lauded as having managed this well, are going to do next. Are the likes of Taiwan, New Zealand and Australia going to keep their international boarders closed until/if a vaccine is available?

Yep, the jury is still out on immunity. But from what I've read, it is still the most likely and there is evidence to support it. Although we have no idea how long any immunity would last for.
