PLANNED TUBE STRIKE ON SUNDAY

Post by bobo66 »

Is the planned tube strike on Sunday still going ahead? If so, does anyone know which lines are expected to be affected?

Should be running near enough to normal that there shouldn't be any issues.

Not sure about that as some drivers might refuse to cross picket lines.

Says more about the poster's mindset than that of those workers giving up a days money. Best ignore him.

Says more about my mindset. Absolutely correct, a mindset borne out of personal experience. Get real folks, if you don’t think it happens then I’m afraid you’re wrong. Maybe not widespread but it happens, I know that for a fact.

You know what goes on in the workplace on the tube?

Where I work every stroke is pulled for what people can get away with. Some are genuine and some are not. Irritates the hell out of me but so be it.

I am absolutely not questioning the integrity of the majority of people. No evidence to suggest I should. I do however have personal experience of a few. Just saying if people don’t beieve decisions not to work are based on the weather or other such personal matters nothing to do with the dispute then that is delusional.

My mate genuinely got hurt on the underground he was a electrical engineer. He slipped on something, hurt his back and they admitted liability straight away. Anyway he ended up on the sick for months and months when he could have gone back after a couple of weeks. His attitude was f them they hurt me so I'm gonna get what I can out of it.

Sadly Thor, such attitudes exist amongst top management too.

Worked with a guy, retired ex Cop running Loss prevention. The job required travel. His attitude, they want me to travel then I’m only staying in top hotels and enjoying the best food and drink every night. All this on top of a big salary, nice car and other perks.

Many other staff and management, me included, were required to travel and happily adhered to a comfortable travel policy and sensible expenses. He felt a cut above everybody else. Not an attitude I respected.

My dad got killed working on track maintenance. He was just finishing his Bank Holiday shift. This was after all the horrors or working through World War II. His section was above ground. This included: clearing up immediately after station bomb damage anywhere ( saw dreadful gruesome sights ), falling down a manhole after cover blown off by bomb blast in pitch black- & a non-swimmer, bringing in a train deserted by panicked driver, in the middle of an air-raid. He left a widow, 16 year old lad, 7 year old boy and me 3 months old. My mum got about £1000 compensation- but judge ruled it had to be spread over 17 years while I was still dependant. Was worth absolute peanuts by 1960. Please think before you post.

They sound really unfortunate to fall ill twice in quick succession like that. I hope their health has improved.

When i was a traffic warden in the city a couple of years ago we were allowed 3 days off sick in 3 months ( without pay ) before we were disciplined , i had to have a week in hospital and a further 2 weeks off with Cellulitus ( luckily had to miss the play off final ) i recieved a written warning , luckily i retired a few weeks later before the bastards could sack me for going sick again , several officers were sacked for taking time off sick 🙁🙁

If memory serves it is difficult for companies to penalise employees for being off sick for valid reasons unless they can demonstrate sickness demonstrates your inability to carry out your job. I’m sure there are people on this forum better able to quote the law.

Not sure you can get written off work because you’re getting divorced?

Bad luck with the weils disease, did he pull through it?

Divorce can lead to depression and other mental health issues that are valid reasons for being off work.
