Great to see the Hospital deaths going down obviously. Is there a similar graph for non-hospital deaths where you found this graph?
Of course, sadly it is not as up to date given the lag associated with the ONS releases

Thanks anyway. It seems impossible to get like for like numbers comparing in hospital with out of hospital. Hey ho. I think that would be a telling picture. There's been much talk that, as the hospital deaths go down, now the bigger number is in Care homes.

What I took from his speech is that the onus is now firmly on us, the people. Once both the infection and death rates start to rise Johnson can reluctantly re-impose stricter rules while saying it’s our fault because we weren’t alert enough, whatever the f*** that means.

The government’s handling of it all has been an unmitigated shitshow. No coherent policy allied with no real enforcement of what little policy there is has been typical of Johnson’ attitude. He’s reacted to the tabloid media, not scientific advice. The state of the Mail, Sun et al last week was a disgrace, the Sun going as far to say that pubs could open beer gardens, ffs. How can you ease a lockdown if you haven’t actually had one? My son lives in Vietnam but is currently in Langkawi where he went for a 5 day break as it all kicked off and he’s been stuck there ever since. Shops closed, no travel in or out, no leaving your apartment, or his his case a tiny airb&b; when he did he was threatened with arrest and a fine. They’ve had 5 confirmed cases of Covid on the island, and no deaths. Vietnam, where’s he’s trying to get back to, has full lockdown. Army and police on the streets, a massive fine, jail and deportation if you’re a foreigner awaits you if you’re caught outside. Vietnam has had no deaths from Covid. None.

Except for a trip to the shops every few days, my mate hasn’t left his flat in Madrid for three months, nor has my mate in Dubai. My mate in Paris took a pic from his apartment window on Wednesday morning. The streets were deserted, with police, TSG and Army enforcing the law. That’s a f*cking lockdown. I rode back from work on Saturday afternoon and it was like a normal weekend afternoon, people and traffic everywhere. We don’t have the police to enforce the half-arsed restrictions anyway. People, certainly in areas of London, are just taking the piss. This is why we’ve had approaching 34,000 deaths while Germany, with a population some 15% larger than the UK, has had 7,200 deaths, nearly 5 times less. I’m a mechanic, and even I can see a link here, tho I’ve no idea how I’m supposed to “control” a f*cking virus. But hey, it’s down to people like me to do it.

So let’s all party in the park and do the conga and whatever, and try not to be too sad when granny dies when the inevitable second wave hits, because that’s the price of freedom, eh?

I’m genuinely livid about this absolute clusterfuck of a government.

That’s because he’s a simple popularist. It was always the danger when he got in office, because his kind of blustering nonsense appeals to idiots. He takes his lead from Trump, is a demonstrably unstable and yet is getting similar returns from the polls despite deaths in the US approaching 100,000.

I think the damage was already done with the late lockdown and lack of ppe, rather than it being caused by people going to the park.

Agreed - but the current action and messaging seems to be designed to shift the blame to people going to the park, rather than the early mistakes. We'll see whether this is successful, or whether people see through it.

The Golf courses need cutting & the holes need to be filled with a piece of foam so no one has to pick there balls out of the holes or touch flags .

How are people supposed to return to work in 12 hours time; with no public transport and without employers having the first idea of the safety regulations required? It's complete and utter madness.

This return to work message is primarily about one thing........getting Furlough payments down. Did people really believe "whatever it takes" Sunak?

It is abundantly clear that this decision is simply about money; and sod all to do about people's lives.
WRONG!!!!

Furlough extended till October. Better go eat some humble pie me thinks.

Wow, just read the proposals for my kids nursery, sounds more like a laboratory. Seems ridiculous considering that age group is barely affected.

This distancing stuff is going to be a major pain.

They'll be kept in small groups apparently. They're planning on wiping down all toys immediately after they've been used and much more. Sounds like hell anyway, very much doubt we'll send our kid back there.

I wonder how many will send their kids back to school once proposals are aired. Not a chance of getting 15 to a class.

Distancing is just totally impractical for many environments.

Furlough payments to businesses are ok.

What they don’t want to do is extend the Self employed income support scheme.

Trying to understand why they want the youngest to go back first and can only come up with cynical reasons. There’s no obvious reason for it.

Less than 1% of those who died were under the age of 16

Nothing to worry about.

Just get them back to school so there parents can get back out to work .

I'm annoyed about the crap environment not their risk of death.

Although admittedly I have found a hole in my release the youth strategy. It would mean more widespread infection for a while which could find its way to people shielding via carers etc.

I don't eat pastry; it's ghastly, fattening food.

However, I'm man enough to say I got that one completely wrong Thor.

Pity we can't get Sunak over to our side........he is demonstrating true Socialist principles!
