Food banks ....

Post by E10EU »

Their need had been ever growing for the past decade.

But now the media seems to focus on donating food to NHS staff (whether they need/ want it or not) ….
There are initiatives for delivering free food to those who are self-isolating, mainly the elderly?

What about those ordinary families whose survival already depended on food banks?
Donations are down - but the need has not reduced.

Yes, some 'giving' is glamorous and headline-grabbing. Yet there must be many families who are quietly struggling and are not noticed.

Yes, they certainly have increased in need since, say, 2010.

how in this day and age did we ever come to need food banks.
we are a wealthy country, if money was spread more evenly instead of making the rich get richer.
all peoples lives would be improved.

It is a shameful indictment on our country that they are needed, or in the thoughts of Prez Biz, a necessary evil to weed out the poor.

Every time the tories win an election in the last 10 years I’ve increased my monthly donation to Trussell Trust. (Look at me)

But it’s true. They are stretched at the best of times and are doing a fantastic job, alongside other similar charities. If I wasn’t working full time and living with someone ‘at risk’ I’d probably be helping with deliveries.

As much as I’m sure it helps NHS workers, it’s also a marketing ploy by businesses. Everyone knows that. Some of the same companies who also pay limited tax into the U.K. which all helps with the underfunding in the first place.

how in this day and age did we ever come to need food banks. - We voted in an extreme right wing Tory government who couldn't care less about anything other than making themselves and their mates rich. Let me know if you need help with anything else.

The Trussell Trust does excellent work. It first started in the UK, according to their website, in 2000 to respond to poverty and deprivation in the UK and to help significant numbers of people going hungry. That's 3 years into the last Labour government.

Charities to help the poor and homeless have existed through governments of all colours and yes in an ideal world should not be needed. You could say the same though about many charities.

The big rise in usage of foodbanks over recent years is disgraceful.

The only difference being that soldiers sign up knowing they could enter a war zone and die. Nhs workers didn’t but have been forced to risk their lives because of government ineptitude.
