You described it as further evidence of government incompetence. Believe the Guardian's spin on the story if you like, but to me the headline does not match the substance of the story.

I think you've missed my point.

Instead of trialling the Curative saliva-test kits for accuracy, the Government didn't even bother.

In the same way, when there have been offers to supply PPE, they didn't bother.

When they were offered the purchase of ventilators via the EU - again, they didn't bother.

Errrrrrm, because nowhere since has the Government stated that they'd tested/trialled them and they weren't accurate?

One assumes therefore, that they simply didn't bother.

What promise has been broken? Has there been an announcement already about the number of tests completed yesterday?

The target may well be missed given reports over the past few days (though the BBC has a story that says the target might be hit) but why don't you just wait a couple of hours til the daily briefing and know for sure, or couldn't you help yourself?

It's kind of irrelevant either way, other than people will jump on it depending on whether they're a Tory or realistic.

It's great that we're there or approaching the 100,000 mark. If we can keep that number going, even expand upon it, then maybe we can think about ending the lockdown. But the damage has been done. 100,000 tests today or tomorrow won't mean sh*t to the c30,000 people already dead and their families.

This seems to be the Achilles heal of this govenment, nothing they set up works properly. They blithely witter on about how well this and that are going, when all you hear on the radio and see in the papers is people queing up to say this and that are not working and things are getting worse instead of better. That they have been incapable of sorting out the personal safety of medical staff is truly shocking, in any other type of workplace the HSE would have been issuing prohibition notices like confetti.
