Re: Colchester United
Nouble is a striker in the Jabo mould not a great scoring record but a real handful. Jackson is a decent right back, Prosser a decent centre half (ex Southend) Comley is a midfield player. Out of all em Jackson is probably the one who could improve us but we don't really need another right back.

Re: Colchester United
I think a lot of clubs are trying to force the EFLs hand. Stevenage only have two contracted players after June 30th and the chairman is saying thier players won't play after that date because they will be effectively out of contract.
Col U have been reliant on thier chairman for years and he has put his hand in his pocket and relied on his businesses to prop the club up, now his businesses have hit a Corona roadblock and he can't afford to do it, the four players released are among the highest earners and would normally get contact offers.
This contract issue will need to be resolved it could turn out to be a major stumbling block to restarting, UEFA have suggested today that because there are likely to be a lot of games in a short period Five subs per game can be used.

Re: Colchester United
Thought that I read that there was due to be a meeting of League 2 chairmen last week, via video, of course.
Nothing was reported about this meeting, as far as I know, but maybe something was decided there to end the season ??

Re: Colchester United
I can see us operating with a smaller squad next season, in fact I think all teams will use smaller squads while finances are stretched, we already have lots of options in that area, Im thinking we might only sign one or two players if that as most of our squad are under contract.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 9:10 pmWe definitely need a right backTop of the JES wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 8:32 pm Nouble is a striker in the Jabo mould not a great scoring record but a real handful. Re: Colchester United
Yeah. What's the definition of need? That we've got nobody that can play there? No cover? That we need to upgrade? In the grand scheme of things it's not going to be a priority for improvement under the new financial landscape.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 9:37 pmI can see us operating with a smaller squad next season, in fact I think all teams will use smaller squads while finances are stretched, we already have lots of options in that area, Im thinking we might only sign one or two players if that as most of our squad are under contract.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 9:10 pmWe definitely need a right backTop of the JES wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 8:32 pm Nouble is a striker in the Jabo mould not a great scoring record but a real handful. Re: Colchester United
There was and it was agreed that the majority of clubs wanted to finish the season but they were not in a position to make a difinative decision. Both Danny Macklin and Nigel Travis were very complimentary about Rick Parry and the EFL about the way they went about things.

Re: Colchester United
Derek Adams (Morecambe): “I don’t think we can continue this season. From a Morecambe point of view we’ve got three players on multiplicity contracts, five players on loan from other clubs. That’s eight players, seven of whom are involved in my pool of 18 for a Saturday. Are we able to keep them, are we not, past these dates? Then you’ve got players out of contract. It’s a whole host of different troubles only from a contract standpoint, that doesn’t even look into the virus and social distancing. There’s got to be a level of sporting integrity there, too. Clubs should really have the squad they had at the beginning of March going into the last games of the season".
I don't see that happening.

Re: Colchester United
Someone told me they were losing 23k a week & have £20Million + debt .
No figures were given to back it up but would not be overly suprised.
Oops just edited that post
Forgot it was 20+ Million debt

Re: Colchester United
They know something or trying to force the EFL into a statement. Personally, I do not see us playing anymore of the matches that were due to be played this season. And when next season will start - who knows - I don't.
Strange times indeed.

Re: Colchester United
There was something on the BBC site today, in reference to the National League, that said the FL had "decided" that if the season were aborted then Stevenage would stay up and only 1 side would come up from the NL. You can see why Stevenage are doing nothing to aid the completion of the season. For the little its worth, if Liverpool can be handed the title for being so far in front then Stevenage should be relegated on the same basis. By my reckoning they'd only got 11 points in their previous 19 games and had lost 7 on the bounce before the halt - and they are 10 clear at the bottom with 10 to play.

I agree. I dont really understand the talk of promotions but no relegations. Surely its all or nothing?LittleMate wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 10:55 amThere was something on the BBC site today, in reference to the National League, that said the FL had "decided" that if the season were aborted then Stevenage would stay up and only 1 side would come up from the NL. Re: Colchester United
Interesting that Morecambe want the season scrapped, do they think Stevenage can catch them. Of course Stevenage, Bolton and Southend should be relegated otherwise every teams efforts have been wasted. What about the relevant points that were deducted. I understand that it's still possible both Macclesfield and Stevanage could have more, plus possibly Southend, but not sure of that. Are all these misdemeanors to be ignored.

Re: Colchester United
When talking about Macclesfield and Southend, you cannot imagine the clubs improving their finances because of the virus and that has to affect either their ability to stay afloat or their playing staff's quality. I'd question whether its better for Southend to regroup in a lower division than struggle in league one.

Re: Colchester United
That is probably down to Bury having gone out of business. It doesn't really make sense starting another season with only 23 clubs in League 1, and so I expect at least team will be promoted from League 2 and one from the NLApple Wumble wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 11:36 amI agree. Re: Colchester United
While it isn't focused on English football, I can across this article today in which medial experts give their predictions on when we can expect stadiums to be filled again: www.theguardian.com/sport/2020/apr/28/w ... al-experts
The general consensus is that it will not happen until a vaccine is available. That is unlikely to be this year, but probably 2021 (or even beyond). The implications for sporting events, and other industries that rely on the gathering of crowds, is huge.
Also, the Michigan Stadium, as pictured in the above article, looks like a rubbish experience for any spectator sat towards the rear. I cannot understand why anyone would be desperate to get back to that.
