Re: Happy St George's Day
Be great if that was next door to Emily Thornberry’s gaff, but I suspect she’ll be living in a more classy area where the hoi polloi in their white vans can’t afford to live.
I’m not sure I’ve got anything in appropriate to celebrate our Levantine myth-slayer today - no trad ales in and nothing that says This Is England! to cook: although I could knock up our national dish (chicken tikka masala) at a push. Or have the last bag of cheese & onion crisps in the house.

And Ramadam starts tonight. Sod daylight fasting without the usual sociable iftar meal for a whole month on top of all the other current sh!t and restrictions. But if that’s your thing, I hope it goes well for you.

I'm incredibly proud to have been born in a particular place, despite having no choice in the matter at all. It was a great achievement.

Re: Happy St George's Day
Why would anyone want to celebrate a guy from the Third Century AD; born in Cappadocia (now Turkey); who never even set foot in the UK?
There's every likelihood he was just an officer in the Roman Army; not even a Knight.
Always strikes me as kind of strange how people are so easily brainwashed.
Then again, St. Georges Day is probably celebrated by the same automatons that wave England flags; and stand up and sing the National Anthem in obedience of the 41 year tax-dodger.

There's every likelihood he was just an officer in the Roman Army; not even a Knight.

Re: Happy St George's Day
Ah Religion doesnt seem to be allowed freedom .
This is the day celbrating Catholicism & therfore CATHOLIC SAINTS
by the English stopped being important .
Its also the reason i chuckle at the NEED to celbrate St George
Instead of celbrating a true English Hero or date like bastille or independence
or some such thing.

Re: Happy St George's Day
It just shows you what a philistine lot you English are. Celebrating the Day Of geezer who probably never existed , never lived here and main claim to fame is slaughtering a dragon ( yeah, right! ). At least our Saint was Welsh, lived there too and lived a nice religious life.
All you English Oafs have omitted to mention that today, is William Shakespeare's Birthday. A true person of International standing. As Mrs Thatcher once said, " Rejoice"!

Re: Happy St George's Day
The burden of proof is on those who claim something to be true, Thor.Thor wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 8:40 amPlease prove that god does not exist. Thanks.Max B Gold wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 12:00 am Too much religion in the world.

The lack of evidence and logical reasoning that leads to the conclusion that God probably not existing is well documented. If you want to search it out then go for it. But I have a suspicion that you're not interested in learning about things that threaten your views.
Of course, believers know this, but continue to believe on the basis that they "have faith". That's fair enough, but faith is what you have when you choose to believe in something, despite a lack of evidence or even evidence to the contrary.
Think about that for a moment. If someone was to apply that logic to most other situations they'd be called idiots. But if you do it in the context of religious/superstitious belief you get a free pass.
I have no problem if people choose to believe in a God, so long as it is not allowed to influence public life. Unless God does reveal himself and instructs us to. So, next time you speak to him Thor, please make that suggestion.

Dunners no problem in what you say however, he claimed he does not exist so therefore the burden is on him to prove it.

Re: Happy St George's Day
It’s a thorny issue, right enough. One that’s occupied philosophers down the ages, without resolution. But feel free to jump in and make your own conclusions:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Existence_of_God
Besides, even if you do come out in favour of a universal designer, your still left with the potential secondary question of who designed the designer. It’s even more mind-bottling than The Matrix.
But at the end of the day, if the idea of a God (or Gods), makes you feel better about things, and organised religion provides you with some comfort or sense of purpose, then as long as you don’t act the git and harass/smite non-believers or alternative deity system believers, then go for it.
