Social Distancing

Post by Chicken Dhansak »

According to government thinking, it appears that there might be a degree of social distancing for the rest of the year.
This was stated by a "scientist" this morning, to prevent a second wave of Covid-19. If this is so, that means that all supported
sport, restaurants, pubs and all sorts of social gatherings will not be permitted, as we know them.
Doesn't bode well for football, does it?

It doesn't. I just can't see how people are going to pay attention, and I'm gonna guess there wont be many laws stopping people because the Tory's will be opening stuff up again pretty soon because of the economy.
I guarantee at Xmas the pubs will be as busy as they were last year.

I dont think its the Tories who are opening stuff up, businesses are taking it upon themselves by the looks of it due to the lack of leadership from the govt.

Seems to me that Donald may be right, the cure cannot be worse than the disease!

Social distancing is not mandated by law at the moment and following the release of NPCC Guidelines the legislation mandating the lockdown is far more curtailed as well

Yep people aren't going to put up with it much more after the next three weeks.

Then people will start going sod it I'm having my mates round for a pint.

Also the damage to people's mental health will also be significant.

I think that if they open up public transport then that will be a far greater breeding ground than sports events.

Those that can't be bothered, or are to impatient, to observe social distancing are the perfect people to test the herd immunity theory and hopefully be the ones sacrificing themselves for the good of the rest of the population.

Hi Ornchruch can i ask if you are of a working age or have retired?

As it's not so much the social distancing itself but the impact that it has on people's working lives. As after a few more weeks of this then the economy will be on the brink of collapse because hardly anyone will be working. There then won't be anyone paying tax to pay for all the borrowing that the government are doing top prop us up at the moment. I know what my neighbours do for a living and out of the 10 people i know 8 work. At the moment five of them don't have work and another one I know is being furloughed within the next couple of weeks.

If people need to work then they need to work. I'm not referring to them.

I'm talking about those that are out having bbqs and parties or having kickabouts over the park. Those all over the country that have highlighted in the media.

How can you know that? Tuffers wrote yesterday that Hoe St looked pretty much back to normal. How can that not be a problem?

Well they are going to be in contact with others. Still if it cleanses us of some stupid and ignorant people it will do society a favour.

Well then the old bill needs to get down there and close it down sharpish. I live in chingford and near a couple of parks and there's hardly anyone at these when I go for a walk normally about half dozen groups of what looks like parents playing with their kids all well spaced out.

Only likely to 'cleanse' us of the old or those with underlying health problems, if those people are stupid enough to go out and mix with others then I guess you are right.

Social distancing is the "new normal". It's going to be around for the next year and perhaps most people will have changed their routine so much that we may never be back to were we were in the past.

I went for a walk with the dog today. I lost count on the number of prams, dogs and joggers I was avoiding. I was doing it for their sake and my own. It's usually not normal but now it's has become a way of life. I was also reminded on something I once heard. You don't see many hearses that have a trailer attached. Cest La Vie.

Course lockdown & social distancing is awful, but its better than dying
We have it it pretty relaxed here. In continental Europe, the lockdown was a proper lockdown where you had to have a pass from the government to go out, and those who were caught outside without one were dealt with severely.
This talk about the economy gets on my tits...who cares about the f*cking economy..thousands of people are dying for gods sake. The amount of money being spent by the government is far less that it was for the Iraqui war, and for the farce that was Afghanistan .
Every country is in the same boat, so no one will have an advantage.
I want the lockdown to last as long as people are dying, because I value humanity more than money

I suspect anyone with a job or any sort of life at all cares about the economy.
