Latest Weekly Record For All Deaths

Post by Clive Evans »

Highest total in 20 years. From BBC.:- The Office for National Statistics data showed there were 18,500 fatalities in the week up to 10 April - around 10,000 deaths a week would be expected.

More than 6,200 were linked to coronavirus, a sixth of which were outside of hospital.

But deaths from other causes also increased, suggesting the lockdown may be having an indirect impact on health.

Very sobering reading. I would guess that people are keeping away from A&E
A few weeks ago people were still saying " Crisis, what crisis?"

From Sky

"Coronavirus-related deaths were 41% higher in England and Wales than the government's hospital-only figures in the week to 10 April.

The new figures, revealed in an Office for National Statistics report, take into account deaths outside of hospitals.

Overall, 13,121 deaths involving COVID-19 have occurred in England and Wales up to 10 April, and registered up to 18 April, which is 41% higher than the 9,288 people who died in UK hospitals during the same period reported by the Department of Health"

Horrible statistics but care homes have been a breeding ground for coronavirus in almost all countries, killing the most vulnerable citizens. No surprise that we have had the worst number of deaths for 20 years because of the pandemic.

PPE has been a farce, we should have had a steady influx of deliveries into the country since day one and quite rightly the government should be held to account, there is no way that care workers and NHS staff should be left exposed.

That said calling for heads to roll in the middle of a crisis won't help, we need to ensure that we utilise every supplier willing to help to fill the void and when we come out of this there needs to be an independent review of the goverments and SAGE's handling of the pandemic.

Let's hope the decrease in hospital cases and deaths we are starting to see will pick up speed and there is a sound and credible exit strategy to lockdown in a few weeks time.

The only people who was saying that was this Government. We could see how this virus was taking hold in other countries yet we did nothing but allow Cheltenham to go ahead. Football with Liverpool playing a Madrid side where the virus was rampant. Allowing plane loads of people from infected areas coming to our shores with nobody being tested. Not testing our wonderful NHS front line staff quickly enough. Not protecting our elderly people in care homes . The list goes on and on. Throughout the Government not telling us the truth and not saying we got it wrong. All we keep hearing is we have to listen to the science. What about common sense. I have to say Germany have done a great job in keeping their death rates so low.
We have not left the starting blocks while others like the Germans are near the finishing line. Typical.

Yes, but it’s all the scientists fault. That’s not me saying it, but the ministers as you keep on hearing “we were guided by the best advice from our scientific community”. They are being set for the fall.
