Apart from Chant No 1 I wasn’t a big fan. The music seemed clunky and the clothing was ridiculous.

Having said that, I was reluctantly dragged along to the awful O2 a few years ago to see them, and they put on a good show which comprised all their hits - which had me tapping my toes from 400 yards away...

Good to hear.

I have found a couple of their LP`s in attic and will listen to them over the weekend.

Not a fan of their music, but I met them all through a mutual friend a while back. Decent blokes.

Tony Hadley is no longer with them, they had a much younger singer last time they toured. Nowhere near as good a singer as Hadley but an awful lot slimmer.

Darlings on the "New Romantic " scene at its birth. On record pretty dire and went for fame and money immediately without even looking back to how they got there.

It's obvious there's no football going on. Even allowing for the eccentries of this forum over many years, who would've imagined a Spandau Ballet thread appearing here?

I quite liked a couple of their tracks when they came out (I was 11), but can't say their efforts have stood the test of time for me personally.

I always believed, ( and still do), that Gary Kemp couldnt play bass, and he was in the group because, as far as females were concerned he was eye candy.
He mimed playing while someone who could really play was playing off stage a la Milli vanilli

They were OK but as New Romantic bands went, I don't think Spandau Ballet held a light to Tears for Fears, Duran Duran, Ultravox and ABC.

Not to mention Depeche Mode - possibly the only decent thing to ever come out of Essex, apart from a 2.8i Granada Ghia.

I got to know Tony Hadley's son really well - I worked at his school in north London. He was a quiet unassuming teenager... Not the cocky over confident kid you'd expect.

If you get a chance watch the programme “True the Kemps” it was on last night on BBC and it was very funny with them two basically taking the piss out of themselves, filmed as a documentary. Well worth it and funny.

You’re overlooking Billy Bragg and Watt Tyler, Essex’s finest sons.
