Sounds like they were a bit unlucky not to come away with a result at Anfield, and gave it a good go. Still think they’ll stay up, but a year in Div 2 wont hurt them and supporters might actually enjoy it more than struggling in the PL.

I'm not sure many supporters would enjoy it. I've quite a few friends who are West Ham supporters and they hate playing at the Athletics stadium win, lose or draw. I've not been myself, but they have.

This is their fourth season in the new stadium, and it really doesn't seem to have uplifted their performances at all. In fact, since they returned to the top flight in 2012, they've been remarkably consistent in their lower/midtable mediocrity (save for the magnificent 7th they achieved in their final season at the old ground), finishing between 10th and 13th every time.

Evidently not the panacea it was made out to be by the owners - in fact, it's been a clear backward step in terms of the matchday experience. So, the question now turns to whether it has made them more or less attractive to investors, and whether a relegation could trigger a much more profound downward spiral of the sort that affected Leeds, Coventry, Portsmouth, Sunderland, and other similarly sized clubs in recent years. That would be funny, wouldn't it?

And I had no idea that they were one of only 8 clubs never to have dropped out of the top two divisions... the other seven are all much more prestigious, so I'm ready to say that it's about time WH dropped out of that list...
