I don't know how Ferugson counts as 'proper' and Vallance, Whitty etc don't. It seems like there's been a understanding of the 'herd immunity' quote. I'd be lying if I said I understood this particularly well so perhaps I'm butchering the logic, but herd immunity is ultimately what most countries will end up achieving anyways, assuming that 18 months of the current situation is considered unsustainable. The whole point of flattening the curve is to regulate healthcare demands whilst accepting infections will become widespread. Merkel has said as much, and Germany is implementing rigorous controls for now.
Your last point I agree with, but there's nothing to suggest that's the result of the approach recommended by Whitty et all. Getting the right in place is a decade old problem as well, not just the last few botched months.
Not to sound too 'Thory' but I wouldn't believe a word from China on this. They have the WHO in their pocket and are responsible for not dealing with this at origin, and failing to notify the world in time.

Suffered cardiac arrest so that's probably why no post mortem. But they need to be investigating and verify whether the Coronavirus caused it, otherwise it's a bit misleading to put this down to Covid-19Prestige Worldwide wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 9:35 pm 13 year old from South London died had no known underlying health conditions, yet there will be no post mortem.

Re: Coronavirus
China has approved the use of bear bile to treat critically ill coronavirus patients.
The National Health Commission has recommended the use of Tan Re Qing - an injection that contains bear bile, goat horn and herbs - to treat patients with Covid-19.
But there is no evidence the mixture has any medicinal value.
Bear bile, which is produced in the liver and stored in the gall bladder, has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for hundreds of years and fetches a high price in the illegal international market.
The move to approve its use has angered animal rights activists and comes just weeks after the country banned the sale of wild animals for food.

I think the Chinese government enjoys putting 2 fingers up to the rest of the World. They also allowed the Wuhan market to re-open a few days back, trading in live animals just as before.

Re: Coronavirus
Will be interesting to see how things go over the next week, especially as we're now approaching two weeks since the start of the lockdown. Hopefully we'll soon start to see the impact of that in the figures.

The response from Britons returning to the UK:

It appears that even Cambodia is better organised and prepared than the UK!
This useless, shambolic, totally incompetent Tory Government. It truly beggars belief.

Re: Coronavirus
We've now had more deaths in the UK than in China. I really don't understand how anyone can look at those numbers and think that our Govt is doing "a great job". We have less than 5% of their population and we had more than a month's headstart in preparing to tackle and mitigate the issue.

China aren't trustworthy but there are other Asian countries with low figures like South Korea.
