Officiating in this league

Post by JimbO »

Sunk to a new low today Dayton sent off for throwing his boot off while being stretched off. After being caught by a heavy tackle.

And probably should've sent the Sutton keeper off for the pen

Im glad the keeper never went - sounds like he was awful...With our luck an outfield player going in goal might then have saved the penalty!

More to the point, throwing it in the direction of the ref and letting out a stream of expletives at him. Deserved red sadly.

The tackle on Dayton was awful studs up and went right through him not even a free kick. We all thought it was a red card and Dayts had broken his leg.

Right in front of where it happened and the challenge didn't look like a red to me.

Dayton was probably frustrated at being muscled out of the game from when he came on and being badly injured again shortly after a lengthy spell out. Also his contract is up this summer and it could affect the next contract he gets. All sorts of things probably came to a head, but he should have still been more professional.

Regardless of if Dayton deserved it or not (was too far away), the ref was looking to book our players from minute one. Which was bizarre considering the challenges flying in from Sutton players.

He booked koroma after a minute for rolling the ball off the pitch and Gorman for a later challenge which wasn’t particularly dirty and was his first one. Some of their players had 2-3 talkings to and didn’t get a yellow.

You’re literally putting players at risk if a team like Sutton think they can do what they want with getting booked and Dayton was on the end of a very strong challenge.

The lino on the opposite side of the dugout was absolutely useless too.

Still, I though it was a bit much for our player to take out the one on the other side.

It’s easy to say he shouldn’t do this or that, but when you’ve been out for a long time and someone does you your head goes as you know it’s a long way back to fitness, you’ve put so much into the rehab and you know your staring at doing it all again. The red mist descends and nothing matters then.

I didn’t see it, but I can feel his frustration and feel for him I really do. He’s now out for months, I’m gutted for him as a person.

Seen it half a dozen times in slo-no. The Sutton player wins the ball with his studs showing and then goes straight through Dayton, he knew exactly what he was doing.

Just seen the tackle, which deserved a card (though not the boot throwing incident).

Dayton is thirty years old, has just sustained his second major injury of the season and his contract is up in the Summer. I feel for the lad.

Where have you guys seen the replay out of interest? The highlights posted earlier didn't show this so was waiting for the highlights from the club.

Violent Conduct at any standard of football is a red card offence.

Throwing a boot at the referee is violent conduct at any level of football.

Dayton's conduct is inexcusable, irrespective of his injury

Club highlights won't be up until tomorrow...League rules prevent clubs putting up their footage until after midnight tonight

That is excessive force IMO and it should have resulted in a red card. The fact he didn't even give a foul, despite being a few meters away beggars belief. Quite incredible.

Exactly what I thought at the time, seeing it again just confirms it. No wonder Dayton was frustrated just back from injury and on the end of a terrible tackle that the referee didn't even penalise. As you say Lord Griff excessive force and a clear red.

Assistant had a clear view too.

Having seen that back it's definitely a yellow card at minimum and probably a red for me.

Utter scumbag Sutton player knowing that kind of tackle could seriously injure an opponent. Well congratulations Mr talentless non league clogger you achieved that. Someone on their forum even describes it as "strong but timed", failing to mention the excessive force from the follow through. Not sure what planet they are on.

Typical of the type of tackle that is prevalent in this God awful league.
Not a Red card in my opinion but probably an “Orange”, ie somewhere between a Yellow and Red.
The guy played the ball but followed through and made sure he clattered Dayts .
I understand Dayton’s anger but if we had lost yesterday because we went down to 10 men, many posters on here wouldn’t be best pleased.
