Re: The football league
Get your sentiment Newtonian and agree with what you say. From the moment we survived as a club at the point when NT & KT took over – first box ticked – all I wanted was for us to get back into the EFL, and we did it in realistically the quickest time I thought possible. But despite everything, ...

Re: Bury Fc
It’s always sad to see a club struggling, as we know only too well of course under FB. Feel for the fans.
Something awry with the EFL though, it’s just one club after the other, they need to get their act in order on ownership and finances.
Fingers crossed for both Bury and Bolton.

Re: Test match
To show my ignorance – and I used to follow Test cricket very closely before live coverage vanished to Sky – I wasn’t even aware that Ireland had been awarded Test status until this match started, and discover on investigation that Afghanistan have too. But a Four Day Test seems a strange one, albei...

My son studied Government & Politics at A Level, which involved a few trips to parliament, and there was some Q&A session with various MPs. Son rated JRM by far the most impressive – nothing to do with his politics – just his openness and ability to communicate and listen. He was keen to enc...

Re: What about this bloody weather, eh? thread
The weather is mad, drove to work in a thunderstorm, then had to wait five mins in the car park for it to calm down, would have got soaked walking in even with umbrella. Now it’s too hot again and everyone arriving dripping.

Her victory speech did at one point remind me of the much-maligned David Steel Party Conference speech of many years ago …. “Go back to your constituencies and prepare for government”. Well I don’t have a crystal ball and these are uncertain political times, but suspect there is a limit how far the ...

Saw him score the winner – an early goal in his career – final game of the season at home to Southampton. We’d gone a goal behind, equalised, and he got the ball in the middle on the half way line, and simply ran away from the defence, left them for dead, and cooly slotted it home, Coronation Garden...

Dr Who, It’s A Knockout, Mission Impossible (the series), any live football on TV (it was comparatively rare), card games at Christmas, R. Whites Cream Soda, Golden Cup (choc bar), trips up to Norfolk to see grandparents and Yarmouth fairground, hoping I’d see a lorry stuck under the tube train brid...

Shoppers, especially in supermarkets, who apparently have no thought of the process of paying until they are physically told how much they owe, at which point they rake through a bag to find a purse, within which they search for the cash/ right card to pay with. And while on the subject of supermark...

Definitely Arjen Robben as pointed out. And he was always a bit of a cry baby, but one of the relatively few players who was genuinely exciting to watch, and with terrific pace too.

While I don’t agree with Clarke on the EU, I’ve always liked him, and as said above he’s always worth listening to. I was never a Tory and he was one of the few ministers in the Thatcher government I had time for. Will be missed when he goes.

Great and deserved tributes from everyone here. On hearing such terrible news football suddenly didn’t matter. Sincere condolences to the family, friends and everyone at the club, and all us fans are of course feeling it too. RIP Justin, thanks for everything, you will forever be a club legend, and ...

One wonders how many changes of parties these MPS can make and still not feel in any way that it would be honourable to seek re-election - and them being so in favour of a second vote on other things too!

Did watch The Oaks and the Derby, but agree it seems to have edged out of the spotlight a bit to what it used to be – the BBC cover racing on the news far less, but that may be to do with them losing all coverage. Still miss the Derby being on a Wednesday and the Cheltenham Gold Cup on a Thursday. A...

Re: What heights could we reach
I’m from the same generation, remember us winning the old Division Three, getting almighty close to top flight football only a few years later, not forgetting a cup semi-final too, and we were the longest serving team in the second tier for a few seasons before our relegation. So that was for me the...

It seems in no doubt that Labour has a problem with anti-Semitism, but it’s also fair to say that one may criticise actions of the state of Israel without being anti-Semitic.

Re: Boris off to court for lies during Brexit Campaign
Will Osborne be in court for saying they’ll be an immediate recession were we to vote Leave? Will Clegg be in court over tuition fees? Will May be in court for saying we’d leave on the 29th March over 100 times? I suspect not. Most grown ups realise that politicians – and let’s be generous – put as ...

Cambridge is an easy one to return to for me, and have only done Northampton and Walsall of the rest, so will aim to get somewhere else too this time around, Grimsby is favourite, Mansfield maybe too. Depending where my son ends up at uni, will likely take in a O’s or Posh away match (he supports th...

Re: Bradford C. and Plymouth A. favourites to win League Two
Over the last 14 seasons, 12 clubs relegated from League One have bounced straight back, but five of those have been over the last three seasons, which may or may not indicate the gap between the divisions is increasing I’ve noticed that relegated teams are often quoted as favourites or highly fanci...

Re: Cameron- look what you have done
The basic problem is that politicians had become detached from their electorate over the EU. Post the 1983 election, when Labour’s manifesto policy was to withdraw from the EEC (as it was), there was no mainstream party for those who weren’t as sold on the ever closer union idea as the majority of M...

I’m struck by how similar Tranmere and us have been in recent seasons, for with one exception – our season 2015-16 when we didn’t get relegated – we have matched Tranmere’s ups/ downs/ stay puts exactly in the following season. Here’s Tranmere’s recent history: 2012-13 – led League One for a lot of ...

It was said on the radio commentary that three weeks without a game before the final didn’t do us any favours. Some truth in that I suspect. But I’ll take the double over Fylde in the league in preference to the Trophy win, and well done them for winning it.

Have always had an interest in ex league teams, and having been there ourselves now, think my interest in the National League will remain. Think the suggestions for top seven are all valid, and good to see Torquay and Stockport back up next season – what a good move it was by Torquay getting Gary Jo...
