Re: EFL on Quest

Was a good feature, and thought Ross came over well.

The Sam Parkin comment made me smile - yes quite!

Derek Adams now in to 7/2 second favourite on Paddy Power, with Calderwood still odds on albeit drifted slightly to 2/5.

Re: Danny Webb

Thought Danny Webb conducted himself well in his brief stint during the terrible end-of-Becchetti era, in fact he was the most impressive of many at the time. He has to make a good manager one day.

Re: New manager shortlist.

Agree re Parkinson.

There are a few tried and trusted managers in the betting, and instinct says we need one of them - it worked with JE after all, and previously RS.

Re: Ratings thread

Was my first visit of the season yesterday, and hence first time I’d seen some of the new signings in the flesh. The defensive formation first half just didn’t work, and after a bright start from us, Vale fully deserved their half time lead. We were much better second half, the change in personnel/ ...

Re: Should Boris resign?

Under normal circumstances a PM doing something illegal would be a resigning matter. But put alongside parliament’s failure to keep its commitment to the electorate to deliver on the result of the referendum, it’s just yet another failure which brings parliament even more into disrepute. Collectivel...

Re: Kevin Nolan 7/4 favourite

Would be surprised if Nolan gets the gig. Don’t think he endeared himself to some during his previous stint here, albeit one has to recognise that it was his first job and it was in difficult circumstances. It always felt like he should make a good manager one day. Jackett at 22/1 is interesting, ef...

Re: Embleton steps down

Respect Ross for stepping up and giving it a go, and respect him for making the decision he has – perfect timing and the right decision in my book.

Over to ML now, am sure he must have already given it some thought, so one wouldn’t expect it to take an inordinate amount of time to conclude.

Re: Managerial change.

The ‘interim’ appointments were deliberate, and I presume that the owners/ ML would have had a rough date in mind where they needed to have made up their minds on RE, and either confirm him in the role or hit the reset button and appoint someone else. My view is that after ten league games we are in...

Re: Managerial change.

At the start of the season I felt that 10 to 12 games would be a reasonable crack of the whip for Ross to give an indication as to his potential , and we’re in that zone now. Two points from the last six isn’t encouraging, albeit narrow defeats to Crewe and Colchester don’t indicate we’re completely...

Re: Fine margins

It’s certainly true re football being a game of fine margins, that little bit of luck here, a fraction of a second hesitation there. And I think that Thor and gshaw make fair points. The Ross interim appointment was perfectly understandable, and having done that he needs to be given a fair crack of ...

Re: The UK - last step on the road to dictatorship

It’s a disgrace that well over three years since we voted to leave the EU that we are still in it. Two wrongs don’t make a right of course, but once parliament takes a step down that road of ignoring the will of the people, then it becomes more tempting for others to do something which is basically ...

Re: Stop the coup - Defend democracy

Conservative and Labour MPs stood on a manifesto to deliver on the result of the referendum, and over three years after that referendum, too many MPs have done all that can to frustrate it. That’s a far bigger threat to democracy than this prorogation issue – which I am not attempting to justify, me...

Visited about 3 years ago. Yes it’s a fascinating place, and some of the huts feel like they are pretty much as they were during wartime. What a place to have worked – and then having to keep quiet about it too. Not all wars are won entirely in the battles.

Re: Democratic - I don't think so......

I read ITV's Robert Peston’s analysis of the current situation, which I thought was worth summarising here. Essentially he says that MPs have created the scenario whereby Boris Johnson can marginalise them. They backed Cameron’s grafting onto parliamentary traditions that the biggest decisions – Sco...

Re: Attention Brexiteers (Only) - Did you want a No-Deal-Brexit

I voted to leave, and obviously realised that would be either a no deal leave or some kind of deal leave, for it really wasn’t rocket science to figure that one out. Given the May deal on offer didn’t feel much like leaving to me, and some of the alternatives bandied about even less so, e.g. stay in...

Am saddened by the demise of any club, we’re all the wider football family after all, and really feel for the fans. With no income it’s difficult to see how the present club can survive to beginning next season somewhere else, so the more realistic hope is that out of its ashes a new club can rise, ...

In answer to the original post question, I thought when the interim appointments were made it would likely take 10-12 games to form a proper opinion, and think that is still my take on it.

Re: Has Ross earned the job

Ross always needed to be given a fair crack at it before a decision could be made, but a fabulous result on Tuesday, which to me feels like we and he have arrived back in the EFL, after the emotion of the opening game and disappointing score-less results to follow. Good luck to Ross, confidence shou...

Re: Brexit Effect

In simple terms we voted to leave, and it is obvious that there are two ways of leaving, either with a deal or without one. Cameron promised the government would deliver on the result of the referendum (as did Her Majesty's Opposition), and over three years on they’ve failed to do so, and politician...

Re Ross, it’s way too early to judge, and as said by others he needs time. Good luck to him in a difficult situat...

Re: Football for a Fiver Offers

Just noticed that the home Walsall tickets on sale for October 12th – had agreed to meet a Villa supporting Brummie mate there for an occasional catch-up (occasionally I see the Villa away instead) - and knowing nothing of this offer was pleasantly gobsmacked to get both tickets for a tenner.
